Finding a bloom in the weeds. A canoe trip to Feist Lake provided numerous nature photographs. Hiking through the tall grass to an abandoned trapper’s cabin, I was surrounded by the incredible world of art beneath my feet.

Walking through tall grasses often makes me want to go swimming beneath them and see a world closer to the ground. The sun broke through the blades and sheathes one morning and presented this flower just waking up. It was a lovely surprise.

I’ve always enjoyed portaging my canoe from one body of water to another. Time to enjoy incredible scenery along the way with the excitement of what is yet to come. Many a trail has ended between two impressive cliffs. Face to Face depicts one such portage ending with a magnificent waterfall.

A memorable trip to Denmark in 2024 provided much inspiration for sketches of interesting architecture and the people. In Odense, Kramboden Aaben was a treasure trove of Danish history.

The Power of Water was created as an abstract by experimenting on how turpentine would enhance the molecular movement of water over a natural substrate and how the deep undertones are shadowed beneath.

This was created as a tribute to an unforgettable sailing adventure with a great friend and myself. Trusting that our nautical map was true, we entered a long narrow channel, zig zagging in a run, envisioning our planned outlet at the end. As we neared the narrows, it became evident we were not sailing through. Two hours later, multiple logs for rolling and much grunting, we got through our unexpected portage. The scene is real.

I have always enjoyed sketching buildings, likely influenced by my design/build background. Details in my job are important. They evidently find their way into many of my skecthworks.

Triangle Falls developed out of a memory of canoeing down the Bloodvein River with my brother. Paddling into a hidden bay with two choices, left or right. Turbulent water cascading each way around a central island. Great fishing and wonderful campsite. Yes, the portage was steep, the site was stunning and the stay noteworthy.
